Can You Make It?

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s Super Wife!

All right that sounds a little weird, but I want to get your mind ticking a bit. In this article I want to share about this concept of being a super wife, which it seems so many single men especially think should be the norm for a wife.

A Proverbs 31 Wife

If you go to singles sites out there, many of the guys looking for wives say that they want a Proverbs 31 wife. But she looks more like super woman than a normal wife in today’s society. Just take a look at what she is supposed to do (verses 10 to 28):

Who can find a woman of valor? For her worth [is] far above rubies.
The heart of her husband safely trusts in her, so that he will have no lack of goods.
She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.
She seeks wool, and flax, and works willingly with her hands.
She is like the merchants’ ships; she brings her food from afar.
She rises also while it is still night, and gives food to her family, and a portion to her servant girls.
She considers a field, and buys it: with the work of her hands she plants a vineyard.
She prepares herself with strength, and strengthens her arms.
She recognizes that her merchandise [is] good: her candle does not go out at night.
She lays her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.
She stretches out her hand to the poor; yes, she reaches out her hands to the needy.
She is not afraid of the snow for her family: for all her family [are] clothed with scarlet.
She makes herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing [is] silk and purple.
Her husband is known in the gates, where he sits among the elders of the land.
She makes fine linen, and sells [it]; and delivers girdles to the merchant.
Strength and honor [are] her clothing; and she will rejoice in time to come.
She opens her mouth with wisdom; and on her tongue [is] the law of kindness.
She takes good care of her family’s affairs, and does not eat the bread of idleness.
Her children rise up, and call her blessed; her husband [also], and he praises her. (GBMV)

Wow, if you are this type of woman, this is what you are like. You:

1) Always do good to your husband
2) Cook
3) Get up early
4) Make clothes
5) Buy property
6) Keep yourself strong and fit
7) Do charity work
8) Counsel anyone who needs it
9) Keep busy all the time – among other things.

But What About Today?

In today’s society, where in the world would you have time to do all of these things? Well the idea of being this perfect wife is wonderful, and if you can achieve these things that is also wonderful. Your husband is truly a blessed man. But let’s be honest. Is this possible at all?

Perhaps in the Bible days the wife and mother had all day to do these things. It was kind of like her job. Instead of going out to work for a business during the day, she stayed at home and did all these things.

But nowadays things have changed a lot. If your kids are at school, the chances are you are running around carting them to sports or extra-mural activities.

If you work in an office environment, you may be running around to meetings or sometimes even going on business trips. So I dare say a lot of these qualities are not a reality in your life.

Instead of making clothes you are likely to go and buy them. Perhaps it is the same with cooking food. If you don’t have time to do it yourself, you probably order take outs or throw some frozen ready-made dinners into the oven.

I do understand that things are hectic nowadays. But don’t despair. There are a lot of things that you can do to make your husband idolize you and think that you are the best, even if you don’t live up to the Proverbs 31 woman in every way.

Where do you see yourself? Do you think you are a Proverbs 31 woman in today’s society? The most important thing is to keep looking to the Lord and asking Him to help you with this job. Then you will rise up and be a wonderful blessing to your husband.
