Drying Your Tears

Isaiah 25:8 He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces;

This life can be so difficult at times. As believers, we are supposed to be walking in victory and having good things coming our way as we walk with the Lord. But let’s be quite honest. It doesn’t always happen, and there are times when we can face things that cause us extreme sadness.

Let’s look at some reasons for experiencing this sadness. When you think of it, the first and most obvious reasons to shed tears are for if you go through the loss of someone in death, or through divorce. When something like that happens, you feel like your life has shattered in pieces and you cannot see any hope for the future.

Actually, any separation from someone you love can cause the same reaction. I am thinking of when you or your family leave to go to another country, and you don’t know when you are going to see them again. We experienced this when my husband, step-daughter, son and myself got on a plane and went to Mexico. There was much sadness and many tears, both for us who were leaving, and those that we left behind for a season.

As I glanced through some Scriptures on the subject, I saw many other times or reasons when someone wept or grieved. Samuel grieved for Saul after Saul had failed as King of Israel. Hannah wept before the Lord because she desperately desired a child. Joseph wept and embraced his brothers when they came to Egypt, and he revealed himself to them.

Jesus even wept when He was at the tomb of Lazarus. He wept when He saw Mary and Martha in deep distress over Lazarus’s death. This lines up with the Scripture from Romans 12:15, which says we must rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.

The Lord has built tears and crying into our emotions. It is often a way of releasing stress and built up tension. And even though you can feel so emotional, it is, in fact, a good thing to do. People who cannot cry have a problem. They cannot release inner tensions and show emotions. And this can start to show itself in physical problems like ulcers, headaches, and so on.

How to Deal With Grief

Perhaps you are going through something right now that is causing you to shed many tears. At this time, my son and I are dealing with the passing of my husband and his father, so we are very familiar with this process right now.

But there is one thing I have found as I have come to grips with my sorrow. The Lord is so faithful, and He can truly comfort you and strengthen you. He can dry your tears, and He will soon turn your sorrow into joy.

I once saw a beautiful vision of this. I saw a room full of people sitting in a big circle, and they were all crying and sobbing. Then I saw the Lord Jesus walk into the room. He had an open jar in His hands, and He put that jar under each person’s eyes and collected all their tears. I thought this was a beautiful vision, and it has stayed with me for years.

My Prayer

If you are going through a time of grief or sorrow right now, I want to pray for you.

“Lord, I lift up whoever is reading this now, and I ask You to wrap Your arms of love around each one. Lord, you know the source of their sorrow, and Your heart of compassion is moved when you see it.

But Lord, I want to thank you that You will move in with Your healing balm and heal every hurtful event in their lives. Thank you for removing the thorn in their hearts and for healing those negative emotions. Then they can walk in Your joy and experience the victory that You have for us in You. Thank you for it, Lord, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.”

Many blessings.
