Many Ways to Hear

Many years ago, my husband Les and I were in quite a predicament. Before we met, my late husband and I had bought a house, and when Les and I got married everyone moved into my house.

We lived there for a couple of years, then we decided to sell it. We found a buyer quite quickly, then we made plans to rent a house. The new owners got the finances and we agreed that they could move in on a certain date.

In the meantime we had found an estate agent and gone to look at a home. We had filled in all the papers, but we were kind of on hold because the agents never got back to us and confirmed that we had got the house. 

I was trying to keep my faith up, but time was running out. There was only about 3 weeks before we had to move out so that the new owners could move in. We still had to pack up and arrange for movers to come.

I phoned the agents again to find out about it, and the lady I spoke to deflated me in an instant. She said,

“You are not the only person on the list you know, and we have to give priority to first come, first served.”

Well, my faith crash-dived and I lost hope completely. Up until then I had the picture of us moving. Now the picture changed to us being booted out onto the streets if we couldn’t find anything. I felt completely hopeless and devastated. 

An Unexpected Hope

Around that time we had bought a cassette tape of a Christian singer called Don Moen. I didn’t know what else to do to build my faith up again, so I decided to put this tape on, relax and listen to the music. Perhaps it would help me to get my peace back.

Well, the Lord spoke to me so clearly in the words of one of the songs. One of the tracks was called God Will Make a Way, and part of the words go like this. 

God will make a way where there seems to be no way
He works in ways we cannot see. He will make a way for me
He will be my guide, hold me closely to His side
With love and strength for each new day
He will make a way, He will make a way

Something exploded in me when I heard those words and I said,

“Lord, I trust you and I thank you that you are able to make a way for us to get this house. Even though there is no evidence of us getting it right now, thank you for taking charge of this situation.”

I think it was a day or two later when the agent phoned us and said that we were approved for the house. It was a crazy eleventh hour situation, but the Lord truly came through for us. 

After this experience, I realised that the Lord can use any person or situation to speak hope into your life. He is speaking to you all the time, but He may use many different things to speak to you and lead you to your answer. You just never know how He might do it. 

We have had answers to problems, a faith boost, or a direction of something to do from listening to preaches or from sharing with people. Something they say just sparks us off in the direction we should be going. 

So what am I trying to share with you here? Simply this. The Lord has so many ways that He can speak to you in answer to a predicament, a problem or not being sure of what to do. You need to simply keep your eyes and ears open, or you may miss something amazing that He wants to do in your life. 

The story I shared reminds me in some ways of the story of Abraham when he went to go and sacrifice Isaac. He went by faith without an animal to sacrifice and said that the Lord would provide it. I think he may have been as hopeless as I was, not knowing when the answer would come. 

But what happened? He lifted up his eyes and saw the ram right there, but it was as though it had been hidden from him previously. 

Many times your answer may be right there, but you do not see it. The Lord may need to just get your attention so that you see it. Then you can rejoice, knowing that the Lord has not let you down. 

Do Not Lose Hope

What is happening in your life right now? Perhaps you are in a predicament or have a big problem like we did. Don’t give up hope even when you do not see the answer near. Keep trusting in the Lord and keep speaking in faith.

The Lord is working behind the scenes as it were and the angels are arranging circumstances. But He will soon let you see what is happening and your answer will appear. Then you can rejoice and move forward in the blessing of the Lord.
