Step By Step Direction
Anyone who knows me knows that I love airplanes, airports or anything to do with aviation. I am not so keen on flying myself, but every other aspect fascinates me.
Some time back I found some videos about how things are run at an airport. The one thing that fascinated me the most was learning how air traffic controllers interacted with the pilots. They needed to see what was going on, then simply spoke out the correct instructions to bring an aircraft safely in to land or to take off.
The pilots on the other hand just needed to learn to listen correctly and obey the instructions. When they did this everything flowed smoothly.
I once saw a crazy news report on TV. It seemed that an air traffic controller had been talking to a friend at a major airport. She didn’t fully watch what was happening to the aircraft coming in to land, and she told two planes to fly at the same level. One was going one way, and the other one in the opposite direction.
They were headed for a major air disaster! Fortunately one of them spotted it early enough to climb and miss the other aircraft. There was only about 50 feet difference between the two when it passed over. As you can imagine, that controller was fired immediately.
To me the interaction between a pilot and an air traffic controller is a great picture of listening to the Lord. The air traffic controller is a picture of the Lord, and the pilot is a picture of you and I as believers. All we have to do is listen to the Lord’s instructions to us and we will navigate the spiritual life without difficulty.
The trouble is we often don’t know how to listen correctly. Or, as in the case of the story I shared, Satan often tries to get in there and give some counterfeit instructions. He wants to give you the wrong message so that you will go off course and have problems.
Always Speaking
Did you know that the Lord is speaking to you all the time? Are you able to hear Him? Perhaps you really desire this, but somehow you just don’t seem to be able to do it.
If you are having a problem I want to tell you that there is hope. Why? Because every single believer can hear from the Lord. You simply need to learn how to hear Him speaking in your spirit.
